How WiFi Password Recovery Works

Recovery difficulty depends on how the password was originally chosen.

1

Capture handshake

Use hcxdumptool or Wireshark on your own network to capture the WPA 4-way handshake when any device connects.

2

Drop capture file

Drag and drop your .cap, .pcapng, or .hc22000 file. Handshake is analyzed locally — your file stays private.

3

GPU dictionary attack

Our GPU farm tests billions of candidates per second using real-world wordlists, rules, and pattern analysis.

4

Get your password

When found, the password is revealed immediately on the status page and sent to your email.

Before Submitting — Try These First

Handshake recovery is the last resort. Check these easier options first:

Check your router's admin panel

Easiest

Go to 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 in your browser. Log in with admin credentials (often on the router label). WiFi password is under Wireless Settings.

Check a connected Windows PC

Easy

Settings → Network & Internet → WiFi → Properties → Show password. Or via CMD: netsh wlan show profile name="SSID" key=clear

Check a connected Mac

Easy

Keychain Access → search your network name → double-click → Show password. Requires admin authentication.

Check your iPhone (iOS 16+)

iOS 16+

Settings → WiFi → tap (i) next to your network → tap Password → authenticate with Face ID.

WPA handshake recovery (here)

Last resort

If no connected devices are available and you can't access the router panel, capture a WPA handshake and submit it here. 60-70% success for human-chosen passwords.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I recover my forgotten WiFi password?
First check if any device is already connected (Windows, Mac, iPhone all let you view the saved password). Then check your router admin panel at 192.168.1.1. If all else fails, capture a WPA handshake and use our recovery service.
What is a WPA handshake?
A WPA handshake is the 4-way authentication exchange between a WiFi client and router when a device connects. It contains cryptographic material that lets us verify password guesses offline without ever transmitting the actual password.
Is WiFi password recovery legal?
Yes, if you own the network or have explicit authorization from the owner. Recovering access to your own forgotten WiFi password is legal everywhere.
What is the success rate?
60-70% for human-chosen passwords. Dictionary attacks work well on passwords based on words, names, dates, and common patterns. Random passwords generated by password managers are not recoverable.
How do I capture a WPA handshake?
The easiest tools are hcxdumptool (Linux) or Wireshark. You need a WiFi adapter in monitor mode. Connect a device to your network while the capture is running — the handshake is recorded during that connection.
